AI, a Friend, or a Stranger Online? Which Mode Fits You

Timuria can be played three different ways: Vs Computer, same-screen 2-player, and online against a random opponent. Each has its own advantages — here's when to pick which.

Vs Computer: While Learning the Rules

If you're just starting out, this is the right choice. With three difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, Hard) you can progress at your own pace without feeling pressured about how long you take to think. Games against the computer don't affect your rating, so you're free to experiment and explore the pieces through trial and error.

2 Players: Same Screen

Ideal when you want to play turn-by-turn on a single device with a friend in the same room. The board automatically flips to face whoever's turn it is, so both sides always see their own pieces "at the bottom." It's the most social way to introduce someone to Timuria.

Online: A Random Opponent From Anywhere

After signing in with Google, you can be matched with a random opponent roughly close to your own rating and play in real time. In this mode, wins and losses affect your rating, you appear on the World Ranking, and you can review your match history afterward in the "Recent Matches" panel. Switch to this mode when you want real competition and a way to measure your progress.

A Suggested Progression

1. Play a few games on Easy vs the AI to get the basic piece movements down.
2. Move to Medium/Hard to put Timuria-specific concepts like the stalemate rule and the citadel into practice.
3. Play 2-player mode with a friend to reinforce the rules by teaching them.
4. Once you feel confident, test your rating against real opponents in online mode.
